Lost Ones

Seth

After our "show" and a long wait, which I’m sure is all part of their plan, we're sent to clean up. But this time, instead of being together for it, we're separated. I don't understand the motivation, especially given what Mia has described of her previous experience. Mia is pushed toward a red door, while I'm herded through a black one.

Once inside, I see I'm not alone. There are other males present, two to be exact. It reminds me of a locker room. Only this isn't a gym and I'm not an athlete rinsing off the strain after some big game. Regardless, the atmosphere is tense, with minimal eye contact and acknowledgement. Worse, is knowing that Porter is standing nearby, no doubt trying to make himself feel better by insulting us in his puny mind.

Like I said, I’m doing pretty well in the endowment area, but I’ve no doubt Porter is trying to pretend he can win somehow.

Two faces turn my way as I step into an empty shower stall, acknowledge me quickly with a slight nod, and then continue cleaning themselves. Three males, three shows tonight I guess. I try not to think too much about what went on or acknowledge the fact that these two other men are in a similar position as me. I try not to think of the women they are forced to perform with, even if they do find them attractive.

I step under a showerhead, and the water turns on. I start to scrub my body, longing to hang onto the feel and scent of Mia while washing away the filth of being in front of an audience when I hear a throat clear.

"What's your name?" I'm quietly asked from my left. There's a tall blond man in the stall next to mine.

"Seth, what's yours?"

"Paul, and that's Johnny," he replies and my body goes rigid. This was the guy I saw with Mia before I was captured. I never really got a good look at his face so I didn’t know we’d ever be face-to-face. I force my jealousy and unease about him away. Mia says nothing happened, that it was all pretend and I will believe her. Besides, she said he's taken. This is Julie's Paul.

I nod to show that I heard him but don't want to look at him. I know my face will show lingering rage and I'm trying to keep it hidden. Pushing my head under the spray, I continue washing, when Paul talks again. "You're the one they brought in for Mia, right?" Again I nod. I hear a sigh, that sounds almost like relief but I can't be sure. Pulling my face away from the spray, I finally force myself to look at him. He looks around the room and his eyes land on Porter who has a cell phone out, the light of the screen casting his face in a grotesque light as he messes around on it.

"Fucker," I whisper under my breath. Though I'm glad he's in here and not wherever Mia is.
